Mount Tangkuban Perahu

Tangkuban Perahu is a dormant volcano 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia. It is a popular tourist attraction where tourists can hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot water springs and boiling mud up close, and buy eggs cooked on the hot surface. When seen from Bandung, Mt. Tangkuban Perahu has a distinctive shape, like an upside down boat. Tangkuban Perahu means, in fact, “up-turned boat”.

Bandung

Bandung is the capital of the West Java province in Indonesia, and the country’s third largest city. The city lies in a river basin surrounded by volcanic mountains. Located 768 metres (2,520 ft) above sea level, approximately 140 km southeast of the nation capital Jakarta, Bandung has cooler temperatures year-around than most other Indonesian cities (the average temperature in Bandung being 23.6 °C throughout the year).

Bandung has served as a popular weekend-break destination for people living in Jakarta, and is also renowned for its shopping, particularly for shoes, textiles, clothing and denim.

Most people in the surrounding province of West Java are Sundanese. Sundanese language is spoken as the first language and is commonly used as informal language for communication in streets, school, campus, work and markets, while Indonesian- Indonesia’s national language- is used as a second language and the language of government, businesses, and instruction at schools.
